Sao Miguel

The island of São Miguel (in Portuguese, Ilha de São Miguel) is the largest island in the Azores archipelago and also the most populated. In it is the capital of the region (Ponta Delgada).

People come to São Miguel Island to enjoy nature and gastronomy.

Planning

An example of ideal planning

  • Transportation from the airport + tour of Ponta Delgada the same afternoon
  • The guides will pick up guests at the airport and drop them off at the hotel. At the agreed time, we will begin our tour of Ponta Delgada.

    We start the city tour walking along the main avenue to the Mercado da Graça where we can find regional products, from pineapple to cheese. Then we continue to the city center where we will discover our monuments and their history that characterize our city and our people.

    During the city tour, we make a stop for convenience. We continue walking towards Campo de São da Esperanza Francisco where the festivities of Mr. Santo Cristo dos Milagres (2nd largest religious festival in the country), where we also find the Fort of São Brás, the statue of the Emigrant, the Church of São José and the Convent

  • Furnas, botanical garden and tea plantation.
  • Our tour departs from Ponta de Ponta Delgada towards the first capital of the island of São Miguel, Vila Franca do Campo, with a small stop to taste the famous “Queijadas da Vila”.
    The tour continues into the Furnas valley where we will visit the Terra Nostra Park. Here we find various species of vegetation from all over the world, after this tour, enjoy and relax in the hot springs. Then we will witness the extraction of the Cozido das Furnas from inside the calderas, an opportunity to create your unique photographic moment. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, our tour continues with a walk through the center of the parish where we can find the fumaroles and experience what it is like to live with a volcano as a neighbor and test mineral waters.
    Pico do Ferro viewpoint and Gorreana tea factory.
  • Half day in Lagoa do Fogo, Caldeira Velha and hydroelectric and geothermal plant.
    We start our tour in Ponta Delgada along the south coast, climbing Pico da Barrosa with a stop at the Lagoa do Fogo viewpoint. After creating your photo moment, the tour continues with the descent towards the north of the island, where we will stop for a brief visit to Caldeira Velha, followed by a tour of the nearby geothermal power plant. Next, there will be a short walking tour of the historic center of the city of Ribeira Grande, where we can admire the local architecture. The return to Ponta Delgada is done along the north coast of the island.
  • Half day in Sete Cidades, Ponta do Escalvado and Gruta do Carvão.

    We begin the tour with a visit to a greenhouse pineapple plantation, with observation of the different stages of growth of this fruit. This is followed by a tour of Gruta do Carvão, a nearby volcanic grotto. Then we go to Pico do Carvão, with a view over the central part of the island, and from where you can see both the north coast and the south coast of São Miguel. We continue our tour to the Vista do Rei viewpoint, with a view unique on the Lagoa das Sete Cidades. On the way down to the parish, we have the opportunity to see the Lagoa de Santiago. The tranquility of the place invites you for a brief stop on the shore of the Lagoa das Sete Cidades to create your photographic moment. We return to Ponta Delgada on the southwest side of the island.
  • Whale watching + Ilhéu Chão.
    Discover the magnificent southern coast of the island of São Miguel, watch dolphins and/or whales in their natural habitat and visit an exclusive Nature Reserve, the Ilhéu de Vila Franca. The trip is a complete expedition since we know the natural habitat of the cetaceans, but also the Ilhéu, classified as a Nature Reserve in 1983, rich in biodiversity in the waters and rocks. Our port of refuge will be in Vila Franca do Campo to enjoy a picnic.
  • Transportation to the airport.
    Breakfast at the accommodation and transfer to the airport according to the flight schedule.
    Back to school.
